Technical Architecture & Functional Positioning
The F3DIO16/801 is a core building block of the HIMatrix distributed safety system architecture, positioned at the field I/O layer while maintaining full SIL3 integrity end-to-end without requiring safety relays or external wiring barriers. Each module combines 8 safe inputs and 8 safe outputs in a single 41 mm wide housing, achieving one of the highest channel densities available in certified safety controllers.
Internally, the module uses dual-channel diverse microprocessor architecture with 1oo2D (one-out-of-two with diagnostics) voting and continuous cross-monitoring. Both input and output circuits employ dynamic pulse testing and read-back verification, enabling line monitoring for open-circuit and short-circuit detection without additional test pulses from the field device. This eliminates the classic “test pulse dilemma” that forces many competitors to sacrifice diagnostic coverage to avoid disturbing field devices.
SafeEthernet provides deterministic, TÜV-certified safety communication (black-channel principle per IEC 61784-3) over standard copper or fiber Ethernet infrastructure. The F3DIO16/801 can be located up to 300 m from its parent controller via standard Cat5e cabling while preserving full safety reaction time ≤ 12 ms.
