Technical Architecture & Functional Positioning
The F5-MEC-420 is the intrinsically safe member of Flowserve’s F5 modular control package for Limitorque MX and QX non-intrusive electric actuators. It occupies the dedicated analog-output slot on the F5 IS mainboard and converts the absolute position measured by the actuator’s hall-effect encoder into a high-precision 4–20 mA signal.
Unlike simple potentiometer-based feedback, the F5-MEC-420 uses the same digital position count that drives the actuator’s LCD and control logic, eliminating mechanical wear and drift. Calibration is performed non-intrusively via HART or the actuator’s local interface — no potentiometer adjustments or loop calibrators are required.
In safety-instrumented functions (SIF), the module is frequently used for continuous monitoring of final elements (MOVs or ESD valves) where partial-stroke testing (PST) and position trending are mandated by IEC 61511.
