Description
GE Multilin F35 is a universal feeder protection relay providing integrated protection, control, monitoring, and metering for up to six distribution feeders on electrical networks. It supports IEC 61850 communications, flexible logic, waveform capture, and advanced diagnostic capabilities for substation and industrial applications.
Featuring high-speed communications (Ethernet/serial), programmable FlexLogic™, and extensive built-in metering, the F35 simplifies feeder management and reduces field device counts compared with discrete protection and metering devices. Lead times for new units typically range from 4–8 weeks when not stocked; surplus inventory ships faster.
Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 15 min)
De-energize feeder panels and wait 5 min to discharge. Tools: insulated screwdrivers, torque driver, ESD wrist strap, multimeter (Fluke 115), label tags. Photograph existing wiring and CT/VT connections. Confirm CT/VT ratio, interface modules, and power supply range.
Phase 2 — Removal (est. 10 min)
Label all conductors before loosening terminations. Remove any protective covers. Unmount the relay from panel or rack without torque on wiring. Inspect CT/VT terminations and connector pins for corrosion or damage.
Phase 3 — Installation (est. 15 min)
ESD protection first. Seat the F35 relay in its panel cut-out or rack slot. Tighten screws to OEM torque spec. Connect CTs, VTs, digital I/O, and comm links per wiring diagrams. Confirm shield terminations and ensure correct grounding.
Phase 4 — Power-On & Testing (est. 30 min)
Apply correct auxiliary power. Observe status LEDs and front panel indicators. Use EnerVista UR Engineer or host SCADA to configure protection settings, CT/VT ratios, and FlexLogic. Test each feeder path, perform secondary injection tests, and log results. Run >30 min of stable operation and enter into maintenance record.
Troubleshooting quick-reference
- No comms → confirm Ethernet/IP settings and switch config
- False trips → verify CT polarity and ratio settings
- Missing metering → check VT connections and scaling factors
