Description
GE Multilin G60G04HRHF8FH6P is a generator protection relay built on the UR platform for medium to large generators driven by steam, gas, or hydro turbines. It integrates protection elements, metering, automation, and high-speed communications in one device.
Designed for IEC 61850 networks and other industry protocols, the G60 consolidates stator differential, ground fault, loss of excitation, power swing, over/under frequency, and synchrophasor measurements with programmable I/O modules. Typical lead time for new OEM units is 4–8 weeks if not stocked; surplus may ship faster.
Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 15 min)
Lock out/tag out generator control power; wait 5 min for stored energy discharge. Tools: insulated screwdriver set, torque driver, ESD wrist strap, label tags, Fluke 115 multimeter. Photograph existing CT/VT terminations, I/O mapping, and comm cable routes. Confirm CT/VT ratios and comm protocol plan (IEC 61850/Modbus/DNP3).
Phase 2 — Removal (est. 10 min)
Label field and backplane conductors before loosening. Remove relay from panel or rack without twisting cables. Inspect existing CT/VT and I/O connectors for corrosion or mechanical fatigue.
Phase 3 — Installation (est. 15 min)
ESD protection first. Insert G60 unit into correct cutout or rack. Tighten all terminations to OEM torque specs. Connect CT/VT sets, digital and analog I/O, Ethernet (shielded), and comm media per wiring diagram. Confirm shield and earth reference points.
Phase 4 — Power-On & Testing (est. 30 min)
Verify correct auxiliary supply voltage. Observe status LEDs and front display. Use EnerVista UR Engineer to upload CT/VT ratios, protection setpoints, protocol settings, and FlexLogic sequences. Exercise protection elements in secondary test set or simulator; verify breaker trip outputs, comm channels, logs, and phasor reporting. Log results; confirm >30 min stable operation. Update maintenance records.
Troubleshooting quick-reference
- No remote comms → verify IP/subnet, firewall rules, and protocol stack
- False trips → check CT polarity/ratios and core saturation
- Missing waveform records → confirm COMTRADE and event buffer settings
