Description
For intrinsically safe automation loops in hazardous sites, MTL MTL8220-DI-IS-01 provides 16 isolated discrete inputs with built-in open/short detection and compatibility with simple switches and proximity sensors. Typical targets include Zone 0/Div 1 installations with PLC/DCS integration.
Designed to operate with low loop currents and NAMUR input standards, it supports fault indication and maintains signal integrity in mixed-ground environments. Field tests show reliable detection with input currents < 1.2 mA and hysteresis ~200 µA when properly wired — verify wiring and sensor type before deployment.
Installation & Configuration Guide
Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 10 min)
De-energize panel; wait 5 min for bus and capacitors to settle.
Gather tools: insulated screwdriver, torque driver, label tags, multimeter, ESD strap.
Backup PLC/DCS config; photo existing DI wiring, terminal blocks, dip settings.
Phase 2 — Removal (est. 5 min)
Label each field wire meticulously.
Release module latch; remove straight from DIN rail.
Inspect adjacent modules and sensor wiring for wear.
Phase 3 — Installation (est. 10 min)
Don ESD strap and ground mat.
Verify model, serial, and certificates against PO/datasheet.
Seat module firmly; torque terminal screws ~0.5 N·m.
Reconnect wiring per documented photos.
Phase 4 — Power-On & Testing (est. 15 min)
Verify supply voltage (24 V DC ±10 %).
Check module status LEDs; monitor input state changes.
Use PLC ladder logic to read DI states; test open/closed states.
Functional test with representative field switches/proximity sensors.
Confirm >30 min stable operation with all 16 inputs, log results.
