  • Description

Servo Dynamics MTS30M4-38B is a DC servo motor designed for industrial motion control tasks requiring high torque and precise positioning. With a 140 V armature and an integral encoder interface, this motor suits integration with servo drives and PLC-based motion systems.

Rated to deliver approximately 26 lb-in continuous torque and spin to ~3700 rpm, the MTS30M4-38B supports dynamic acceleration with typical encoder feedback for closed-loop control. Verify exact voltage and torque specs with your OEM datasheet prior to design lock-in.

    Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 10 min)

Lock out/tag out motion bus power; wait 5 min for stored energy discharge. Gather insulated screwdrivers, torque driver, ESD strap, label tags, Fluke 115 multimeter. Photograph existing wiring, encoder terminations, and frame orientation. Confirm drive compatibility (voltage/current rating).

    Phase 2 — Removal (est. 5 min)

Label conductors before loosening. Unmount servo from flange; avoid twisting shaft or connectors. Inspect mating surfaces and encoder cable connectors for wear or corrosion.

    Phase 3 — Installation (est. 10 min)

Install motor onto mechanical mounting plate; torque mounting bolts per OEM recommendation. Reconnect armature and encoder leads using shielded cabling. Torque power terminals to rated spec (confirm with drive and cable standards). Connnect encoder lines with proper shield terminations to drive.

    Phase 4 — Power-On & Testing (est. 15 min)

Power up the servo drive and verify no overcurrent faults. Enable drive in jog mode. Confirm encoder feedback is recognized. Run unloaded sweeps across speed range to validate direction and gains. Log motor current, speed, and position stability for 30 min. Add to maintenance records.

    Troubleshooting quick-reference

    • No drive enable → verify armature and brake supply wiring
    • Fault / overspeed → check encoder wiring and termination
    • Vibration at low speed → tune drive gains with inertia data
