Product Introduction
Advanced Energy MDX-L12 is a high-performance DC magnetron power supply from the MDX-L series. It delivers stable, regulated DC power for magnetron sputtering and other plasma-based thin-film deposition processes used in semiconductor, optical coating, and industrial surface treatment systems.
The MDX-L family is engineered for fast arc response, precise power control, and reliable operation in continuous-duty process environments. Units in this series typically feature digital control, multiple interface options, and comprehensive protection circuits to safeguard both the power supply and the process tool.
Installation & Configuration Guide
Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 15 min)
De-energize the process tool and lock out all power sources. Allow the unit and associated magnetron to cool. Tools: ESD wrist strap, multimeter (Fluke 115), torque tools, RF/DC safety interlock verification equipment. Photograph existing power, control, and interlock cabling.
Phase 2 — Removal (est. 15 min)
Label every power, control, interlock, and cooling connection. Disconnect the output cable to the magnetron, control interfaces, and any water or air cooling lines. Unbolt the unit from the rack and remove carefully.
Phase 3 — Installation (est. 20 min)
Verify the full model marking MDX-L12 and any revision or option codes. Mount the unit securely in the rack. Reconnect cooling, interlocks, control signals (RS-232/GPIB/analog), and the high-power output cable using correct torque and strain relief. Confirm all safety interlocks are functional.
Phase 4 — Power-On & Testing (est. 20–30 min)
Apply control power first, then main power under supervised conditions. Verify interlock status and communication with the process controller. Ramp power gradually while monitoring output voltage, current, and arc activity. Confirm stable operation at process set-points and log the replacement.
Troubleshooting quick-reference:
- No output → check interlocks, enable signals, and main power
- Frequent arcing → inspect magnetron, cable integrity, and process pressure
- Communication loss → verify interface cabling and baud rate / address settings
