    Product Introduction

The ABB CI854BK01 (3BSE069449R1) is a dual-port PROFIBUS-DP/V1 communication interface kit for the AC 800M programmable automation controller family. It provides high-speed, redundant connectivity to remote I/O, drives, HMIs, and other PROFIBUS field devices in process and factory automation systems.

This module stands out for its dual-channel architecture—supporting both line redundancy (two independent PROFIBUS segments) and master redundancy (backup controller takeover). In field deployments of AC 800M systems, we’ve seen scan times drop to sub-millisecond levels with proper bus termination and 12 Mbit/s configuration. The kit includes both the CI854B communication interface and the TP854 baseplate, so you’re ready to mount and wire out of the box.

    Installation & Configuration Guide

    Phase 1—Pre-Installation (est. 10 min)
De-energize the AC 800M rack and wait 5 min for capacitor discharge. Grab a Torx T20, wire strippers, and a Fluke 115 multimeter. Export your current Control Builder M project and photograph the existing module’s DIP switches, wiring, and rack position.

    Phase 2—Removal (est. 5 min)
Label every PROFIBUS cable before disconnecting—L1/L2 or Segment A/B. Release the DIN-rail latch, pull the module straight out perpendicular to the backplane, and inspect the backplane connector pins for bent contacts or corrosion.

    Phase 3—Installation (est. 10 min)
Strap on your ESD wristband. Verify the part number matches CI854BK01 (3BSE069449R1). Replicate the DIP switch settings from your photos—baud rate, address, termination resistor (120 Ω at bus ends only). Seat the unit until the latch clicks, reconnect the 9-pin D-sub cables, torque terminal screws to ~0.5 N·m, then run a pre-power checklist: backplane continuity, 24 V DC supply polarity, ground bond.

    Phase 4—Power-On & Testing (est. 15 min)
Verify supply voltage is 24 V DC (±10%). Power up and watch the LEDs: green = RUN, red flash = ERR, amber flash = DIAG. Hook up Control Builder M or System 800xA, download the PROFIBUS configuration, then run a full I/O loop test. Log at least 30 min of stable operation before signing off.

    Troubleshooting quick-reference:

    • No comms → check IP (if applicable), PROFIBUS cable, switch port, termination resistor
    • ERR steady → firmware mismatch; attempt update via Control Builder M
    • Download fails → verify cable and software version
    • Over-temperature → check 100 mm clearance above/below, 30 mm sides
