Description
Product Introduction
Engine-room pressure transmitters or tank-level sensors going offline can shut down a cargo operation fast. The KONGSBERG RAI-16 8100148 is a 16-channel remote analog input module built for Kongsberg Maritime automation systems. It accepts voltage, current and RTD signals, scales them in engineering units and sends time-stamped data over redundant CAN Open.
Designed for marine vibration and temperature extremes, the unit mounts with four M5 screws and draws only 7 W plus sensor excitation. Classification-society approvals (DNV, ABS, LR and others) allow direct installation near engines or compressors inside suitable cabinets. Installation & Configuration Guide
Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 10 min)
De-energize the cabinet and wait 5 minutes. Tools needed: insulated screwdriver, torque tool, multimeter, laptop with Kongsberg configuration software. Export the existing module configuration. Photograph every terminal block, CAN wiring, power connections and the physical mounting location.
Phase 2 — Removal (est. 5 min)
Label all wires. Disconnect power, CAN and sensor terminals. Remove the four M5 mounting screws and lift the module clear. Inspect the backplane or mounting surface for corrosion or bent pins.
Phase 3 — Installation (est. 10 min)
Wrist strap on. Confirm the part number is RAI-16 8100148. Replicate the photographed terminal layout exactly. Seat the module, torque the M5 screws, reconnect power (18–32 V DC), CAN bus (with proper termination) and sensor wiring. Check for correct polarity on current loops.
Phase 4 — Power-On & Testing (est. 15 min)
Apply 24 V DC. Observe status LEDs. Connect the host system, download configuration, verify each channel reads correctly in engineering units, and confirm CAN communication. Run a full sensor simulation if possible and leave the module online >30 min. Log the change in the vessel maintenance record.
Troubleshooting quick-reference:
- No CAN traffic → check termination resistors and baud rate
- Channel error → open sensor, wrong range setting or excitation overload
- Module offline → supply voltage outside 18–32 V DC
FAQ
Can I just drop this in and go?
Only if the existing wiring, CAN node ID and signal ranges match the original module. Otherwise reconfigure the channels and verify termination. Most swaps finish in under an hour when photos of the original setup are available.
Is the KONGSBERG RAI-16 8100148 compatible with older Norcontrol or K-Chief systems?
Yes—the CAN Open interface and mechanical footprint are consistent across the distributed processing unit family. Confirm firmware revision and node addressing before insertion.
