Description
Product Introduction
Origin story — KONGSBERG developed the RDIOR400 to address the need for compact, reliable digital I/O in harsh offshore environments. It integrates both input and output channels, reducing cabinet footprint while maintaining precise control over distributed sensors, alarms, and actuators on vessels.
Supporting dual CANopen 4.0 communication and onboard watchdog diagnostics, this module processes 16 digital inputs and 16 relay outputs. In field deployments on offshore supply vessels and tugs, the conformal-coated electronics resist salt spray and vibration — though proper marine cabinet sealing remains essential. Fiber communication optional; real-time timestamping ensures synchronization across the distributed system.
Installation & Configuration Guide
Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 10 min)
- Lock out cabinet power.
- Wait 5 min for residual DC bus discharge.
- Tools: Fluke 115 multimeter, torque screwdriver, ESD wrist strap.
- Backup configuration and photograph CAN addresses, terminal assignments, and wiring layout.
Phase 2 — Removal (est. 5 min)
- Label all cables before disconnecting.
- Remove module carefully to avoid twisting terminals.
- Inspect connector integrity, oxidation, and solder joints.
Phase 3 — Installation (est. 10 min)
- Wear ESD strap.
- Verify part number and firmware revision.
- Replicate DIP switch, CAN node configuration, and terminal assignment.
- Seat module securely and tighten screws evenly.
- Reconnect cable shields exactly as photographed.
Phase 4 — Power-On & Testing (est. 15 min)
- Confirm 24 V DC ±10% supply.
- Observe LEDs: green = RUN, red = FAULT, amber = CAN communication.
- Connect to K-Chief automation system.
- Test all input and output channels, monitor relay response and timestamps.
- Operate >30 minutes while logging communication stability and temperature.
- Record firmware and maintenance entry.
Troubleshooting Quick-Reference
- No communication → check CAN node ID and termination
- Input/output channels inactive → verify wiring and shield grounding
- Watchdog alarms → firmware mismatch or power fluctuation
- Intermittent relay trips → inspect vibration impact at terminals
