Description
Product Introduction
Triconex 3301S2 is a 32-point digital input module for Triconex Tricon, Trident, and Tri-GP safety instrumented systems. It acquires discrete signals from field switches, contacts, and status devices and feeds them into the triple modular redundant (TMR) architecture.
The module supports 15–30 VDC inputs with commoned points, force-to-value diagnostics, and channel isolation suitable for noisy industrial environments. It mounts in the standard chassis with matching baseplates and remains a direct fit for existing Tricon installations where new-surplus stock is still available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the module support hot-swapping?
A: Yes, within a properly configured Triconex chassis that supports hot-spare modules. Mechanical keying prevents incorrect insertion. Always follow the system executive procedure and verify the spare is recognized before relying on it for safety functions.
Q: Is this part obsolete? What is the upgrade path?
A: The 3301 family is legacy on older Tricon chassis. Newer platforms use updated I/O such as the 35xx or CX-series modules. If your system still runs the original chassis, this unit remains a form-fit replacement. Confirm chassis firmware and baseplate compatibility before ordering.
Q: Will I lose the application program or configuration when replacing it?
A: No. The application logic resides in the main processors. The input module holds no user program. Record current channel status and diagnostic states, then verify all 32 points after installation using the TriStation or system diagnostic tools.
Q: Are these factory-new or refurbished?
A: Units supplied as new original (new surplus) receive inbound origin and serial verification, visual inspection for corrosion or bent pins, full functional testing on a Triconex test rack including FVD checks and input threshold validation, insulation resistance testing, and anti-static packaging. They are tested to ensure proper functionality.
