Description
Product Introduction
Triconex 3351S2 is a 32-point analog input module for Triconex Tricon, Trident, and Tri-GP safety instrumented systems. It converts 4–20 mA field signals from pressure, flow, level, and temperature transmitters into digital values for the TMR controllers.
The module processes inputs through the triple-redundant architecture, provides continuous channel diagnostics, and mounts in the standard chassis with matching baseplates. It remains a direct replacement for existing installations where new-surplus stock is still available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the module support hot-swapping?
A: Yes, in a chassis configured for hot-spare modules. Mechanical keying prevents wrong insertion. Follow the system executive procedure, confirm the spare is recognized, and verify all channels before relying on it for safety functions.
Q: Is this part obsolete? What is the upgrade path?
A: The 3351 family is legacy on older Tricon chassis. Newer platforms use updated analog modules in the CX or later series. For systems still running the original chassis, this unit is a form-fit replacement. Confirm chassis firmware, baseplate type, and TriStation compatibility before ordering.
Q: Will I lose the application program or scaling when replacing it?
A: No. Application logic and scaling reside in the main processors and configuration database. Record current channel status, engineering units, and diagnostic states. After installation, force a diagnostic cycle and verify all 32 points report correct values and healthy status.
Q: Are these factory-new or refurbished?
A: Units supplied as new original (new surplus) receive inbound origin and serial verification, visual inspection for corrosion or bent pins, full functional testing on a Triconex test rack including current injection across the 2–22 mA range, open/short diagnostics, and insulation resistance checks, followed by anti-static packaging. They are tested to ensure proper functionality.
