Field observation: In medium-voltage distribution substations, the ABB REF615E-G handles protection, control, measurement, and supervision of overhead lines and cable feeders across radial, looped, and meshed networks with or without distributed generation.
This relay delivers directional and non-directional overcurrent and earth-fault protection, voltage/frequency/power-based functions, and unique multi-frequency admittance-based earth-fault protection for higher sensitivity and selectivity compared to conventional zero-sequence schemes. You choose the REF615E-G when you need optional advanced fault location, arc protection, high-speed outputs, and full IEC 61850 support including HSR/PRP redundancy and GOOSE messaging without adding wiring. Power consumption stays under 10 W, and both 1 A and 5 A CT secondaries are programmable in software.
