Product Introduction
Data first — the ABB RDCU-02C is the main drive control unit used in ACS800 industrial drive systems for motor control, field communication, and distributed I/O handling. You’ll typically find this module inside paper mills, conveyors, HVAC plants, and heavy process lines where uptime matters more than anything else.
Drawing approximately 150 mA at 24 V DC, this controller supports programmable analog and digital I/O alongside optional PROFIBUS and DeviceNet connectivity. In field deployments of ACS800 systems, the coated PCB design holds up surprisingly well in dusty electrical rooms — though your mileage may vary depending on cabinet airflow and humidity control.
Installation & Configuration Guide
Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 10 min)
- Lock out and tag out the cabinet supply.
- Wait minimum 5 minutes for DC bus discharge.
- Tools required: Fluke 115 multimeter, insulated screwdriver set, ESD wrist strap, laptop with ABB DriveWindow.
- Export existing drive parameters first.

Phase 2 — Removal (est. 5 min)
- Label all terminal wires before disconnecting.
- Disconnect PPCS fiber carefully — avoid bending radius below specification.
- Pull the module perpendicular to the mounting rail.
- Inspect connector pins and fiber ports for contamination or oxidation.
Phase 3 — Installation (est. 10 min)
- Attach ESD strap before touching the PCB.
- Verify exact part number and firmware family.
- Replicate all jumper and DIP settings from reference photos.
- Mount securely until latch engagement is audible.
- Reconnect terminals to approximately 0.5 N·m torque.
- Confirm 120 Ω termination resistor exists only at bus ends.
Phase 4 — Power-On & Testing (est. 15 min)
- Verify incoming supply voltage: 24 V DC ±10%.
- Observe startup LEDs:
- Green = RUN
- Red flashing = ERR
- Amber flashing = DIAG
- Establish communication using DriveWindow or fieldbus master.
- Test analog signals, relay outputs, and one complete motor control loop.
- Maintain runtime for >30 min while logging temperature rise.
- Record firmware version and maintenance event.
Troubleshooting Quick-Reference
- No communication → check PPCS fiber polarity and fieldbus settings
- ERR LED steady → firmware mismatch or corrupted parameter set
- Download timeout → verify DriveWindow version and adapter cable
- Unstable motor response → inspect encoder scaling and Group 99 parameters
