Description
Product Introduction
Running a 66 kV feeder and need sub-cycle fault detection? The ABB REC-670 (1MRK004814-AG) is the Relion 670 series bay control IED that integrates protection, measurement, and control into a single 4U chassis.
This unit delivers 48 samples per cycle (2.88 kHz at 60 Hz) with ±1.0% accuracy on overcurrent functions, and supports IEC 61850-8-1 GOOSE messaging for breaker-to-breaker tripping in under 4 ms. In field deployments of Relion 670 systems, we’ve seen this IED handle 12 AI (6 current + 6 voltage) channels without the latency you get on legacy electromechanical relays. Dual Ethernet ports mean redundant station bus—if one fiber drops, the other holds the SCADA link.
Installation & Configuration Guide
Phase 1—Pre-Installation (est. 10 min)
De-energize the bay. Wait 5 minutes for capacitor discharge. Grab a 24–250 V DC multimeter, ESD wrist strap, and a camera. Export the current PCM600 configuration. Photograph all CT/VT wiring, binary input terminals, and Ethernet fiber routing—photo, photo, photo.
Phase 2—Removal (est. 5 min)
Label every CT, VT, and control cable before disconnecting. Remove the front cover screws. Slide the IED out of the rack carefully, keeping the rear terminal block intact. Inspect the terminal block for loose screws or corrosion.
Phase 3—Installation (est. 10 min)
Strap on your ESD gear. Verify the part number matches 1MRK004814-AG. Slide the REC-670 into the 19″ rack, torque mounting screws to ~0.5 N·m. Reconnect CT/VT wiring (observe polarity), binary inputs, and relay outputs. Reconnect Ethernet cables (observe fiber polarity if using SFP). Run a pre-power checklist: auxiliary supply voltage 24–250 V DC, ground continuity, no loose strands.
Phase 4—Power-On & Testing (est. 15 min)
Apply auxiliary supply (24–250 V DC ±10%). Watch the LEDs: Power = green steady, Run = green flash, Alarm = off (red = fault). Connect PCM600 via Ethernet. Download the bay configuration. Run a functional test: verify CT/VT measurements (within ±1%), test binary input status, simulate overcurrent trip (secondary injection), confirm relay output operates. Confirm stable operation for at least 30 minutes. Log the swap in your maintenance record.
Troubleshooting quick-reference:
- No power LED → check auxiliary supply voltage and polarity
- Alarm LED red → check configuration integrity, verify firmware version in PCM600
- CT measurement error → inspect CT wiring polarity, verify IBase setting in PCM600
