Description
Product Introduction
Running a SIL 3 ESD system and need to avoid common-mode failures? The ICS TRIPLEX T8110B is the Trusted TMR processor that executes safety logic across three independent PowerPC channels with 2-out-of-3 voting.
This unit delivers 100 MHz processing with 16 MB EDO DRAM, executing IEC 61131-3 function blocks in <10 ms scan times. In field deployments of Trusted SIS systems, we’ve seen this processor handle 1,000+ I/O points without the latency you get on single-channel PLCs. Triple redundant Inter-Module Bus means if one channel fails, the other two hold the vote—no process shutdown.
Installation & Configuration Guide
Phase 1—Pre-Installation (est. 10 min)
De-energize the Trusted T8100 chassis. Wait 5 minutes for capacitor discharge. Grab a 24 V DC multimeter, ESD wrist strap, and a camera. Export the current Trusted configuration (via TriStation or similar). Photograph the existing T8110B, IMB cabling, and communication port wiring—photo, photo, photo.
Phase 2—Removal (est. 5 min)
Label every IMB cable and communication cable before disconnecting. Release the locking latches on the T8100 chassis. Slide the T8110B out carefully, keeping the backplane connector intact. Inspect the backplane connector pins for bent or corroded contacts.
Phase 3—Installation (est. 10 min)
Strap on your ESD gear. Verify the part number matches T8110B. Slide the module into the T8100 chassis guide rails, seat until the locking latches click. Reconnect IMB cables (observe triple redundancy: A, B, C channels). Reconnect RS422/485 and IRIG-B cables (if used). Run a pre-power checklist: supply voltage 20–32 V DC, ground continuity, no loose strands.
Phase 4—Power-On & Testing (est. 15 min)
Apply 24 V DC ±10% to the T8101 power supplies. Watch the LEDs: Power = green steady, OK = green flash, Fault = off (red = fault), Sync = green (TMR synchronized). Connect TriStation software via RS422. Verify the TMR configuration downloads without errors. Run a functional test: simulate a safety input (E-stop, high-pressure alarm), verify all three channels vote correctly, confirm relay outputs de-energize within <10 ms. Confirm stable operation for at least 30 minutes. Log the swap in your maintenance record.
Troubleshooting quick-reference:
- No Power LED → check 20–32 V DC supply and polarity
- Fault LED red → check IMB cabling, verify all three channels are seated
- Sync LED off → check TMR synchronization, verify firmware version matches across channels
