The WOODWARD 8237-1246 is a ProTech-GII overspeed protection device. It monitors turbine speed and acceleration, then trips the shutdown relays when either parameter exceeds configured limits .

Installation & Configuration Guide
Phase 1 — Pre-Installation (est. 15 min)

My turbine runs 24/7 — can I replace modules while it’s operating?
Yes. That’s the point of the TMR design. Each of the three modules is independently hot-swappable . Pull one, insert the replacement, verify it reports healthy, move to the next if needed. The system maintains 2-out-of-3 voting throughout. But verify your maintenance procedure allows it — some plants require a turbine shutdown regardless.
What’s the difference between the 8237-1246 and 8237-1244 or 8237-1245?
The 8237-1246 is the voted-relay bulkhead-mount variant with separate alarm relays. The -1244 and -1245 differ in relay configuration and mounting style . Check your system documentation for the exact model required. Don’t substitute without confirming trip logic compatibility.

Sourcing varies widely. Some distributors list New Original with factory packaging. Others sell tested pulls or refurbished units.
